Catfield

The quaint village of Catfield, is what you would imagine if you wanted to stay at "a place in the country". It's quiet with hardly any traffic, even though the main A149 runs a few hundred metres from it. Catfield has a population of just under one thousand inhabitants, though this would swell in the summer season due to the many holiday properties to let. It is a 30 minute drive from central Norwich.

Things to see and do:
Catfield is ideally situated to explore the best of the Norfolk Broads and some of it's iconic locations. A short drive will take you into the neighbouring village of Hickling, which is situated on the edge of Hickling Broad. This is a lovely location with thatched roof cottages lining the main street. There is plenty to do on Hickling Broad. For more information, click HERE. Seven minutes away by car is Potter Heigham, with its medieval low arched bridge. There is lots to do here, including self-drive dayboat hire to see the upper reaches of the unspoilt River Thurne and shopping at Lathams large discount store. More information HERE. You are also just a short distance from Barton Broad Nature Reserve. A visit here could reward you with views of kingfishers, cormorants, all manner of waterfowl, the occasional otter, and even the elusive Swallowtail butterfly. A good place to view the area is from Irstead. Click HERE for more information. You are also less than 10 miles from the coastal resort of Winterton On Sea, and Horsey Gap, famous for it's basking seal colony.

Local pubs, restaurants:
The Crown Inn, at the centre of the village, is the only public house here. It's food menu is extensive and is highly thought of. The next nearest bars are in Hickling, the Greyhound in the village centre and the Pleasureboat Inn, right next to Hickling Broad. Both have extensive food menus, with the latter offering a restaurant as well as occasional live music.

Cafes and takeaways:

There are no cafes or takeaways in Catfield. The nearest are in Stalham, a seven minute car ride away. For more details click HERE.

Other Shops:
There is a general stores in the village offering provisions. Other than that, you would need to travel to Stalham, where there is a Tesco supermarket, an independent butchers, newsagents, hairdresser, pharmacy and a GP surgery.
