Acle:
Public Houses and Restaurants: The
Bridge Inn is riverside by Acle bridge. The
Hermitage is closer to the village. Both have
extensive menus.
Shops: A variety of shops and a supermarket
available in Acle village centre.
Bramerton Woods End
Bars & Restaurants: Brammerton
Woods End Inn. Beautiful
setting on a bend in the river. Good sized menu.
Brundall:
Bars & Restaurants:
The Yare Hotel. Short walk from
the river. Extensive menu. Very popular with locals. The Coldham Hall Hotel. Located
opposite Brundall on the other side of the river. Extensive
menu. The
Lavendar House restaurant
(www.thelavenderhouse.co.uk) is a short walk into the village.
Shops: Good selection in the village centre including a supermarket
a chemist and a doctor
Coltishall
Public Houses and Restaurants: The
New Rising Sun and the The
Kings Head. Located on the riverside at Coltishall
Common. Extensive food menus. The
Recruiting Sergeant is closer to the village
also with an extensive menu. Other restaurants can
be found in the village centre.
Shops: include supermarket, pharmacy, launderette, antiques
all located in the village centre.
Dilham
Bars and Restaurants: The Cross
Keys is a short walk from the free moorings which are
probably most suited to smaller boats due to the restricted
turning area at the head of the river. At the time of writing,
this public house is closed and awaiting new tenants.
Hickling
Bars & Restaurants: The Pleasureboat Inn. Located on the
edge of Hickling Broad. Occasional
live music, Extensive menu for bar meals as well as a restaurant. The Greyhound. (www.greyhoundinn.com) Busy local's pub with extensive bar menu.
Shops: General store in the village centre.
Local Attractions: Hickling is renowned as a picture postcard
village making it a pleasant walk from the Hickling Broad moorings.
Horning:
Public Houses and Restaurants: Swan
Inn, The New Inn and The
Ferry Inn. All riverside. Extensive menus available
at all three. Other restaurants available closer to
the village centre.
Shops: grocers, newsagents, gift shops and
antiques
Horsey Mere
Bars & Restaurants: The Nelson Head (www.nelsonheadhorsey.co.uk) It boasts an extensive menu.
Local Attractions: Excellent views from Horsey Mill windmill.
30 minute walk to the coastal sand dunes from here.
Loddon:
Bars & Restaurants: You have a choice of The Kings Head, The Swan and The
Angel or The
White Horse. All provide good choice menus.
Shops: The main street has a good selection of shops, banks,
a supermarket, a pharmacy and a doctor.
Ludham
Bars & Restaurants: The village of Ludham lies at the head
of a Broad called Womack Water. A short walk takes you to the village centre where
you will find The Kings Arms (www.kingsarmsludham.co.uk). This
public house, popular with locals and visitors alike offers
a varied food menu.
Shops: The village centre has a large general store.
Local Attractions: The village of Ludham has an "Olde Worlde"
feel to it, looking quaint and untouched.
Neatishead
Bars and Restaurants: The White
Horse Inn is located in the village centre and offers
a bar menu. The Old Saddlery is
a restaurant offering an A-La-Carte menu and is also in the
village centre. Free moorings are available at the local staithe
a 5 min walk away.
Shops: A general store is located between the free moorings
and the village centre.
Local Attractions: A 20 to 30 min walk will
take you to the start of Barton Broad Boardwalk which
includes unrivalled views over the Broad. Moor at Gays
Staithe (free) as the walk is shorter from here.
Norwich
Bars & Restaurants: Too many to mention.
Local Attractions: The cathedral,
Pulls Ferry, the castle and the outdoor market place
are all worth a visit.
Oulton Broad
Bars & Restaurants: The
Wherry Inn, The Commodore, The Waveney and The
Lady of the Lake are all either facing the Broad or
within a short walk of the Yacht Station.
All offer extensive menus. The Lady of the Lake has occasional
live music nights.
Shops: A newsagents and small supermarket are a short
walk from the Yacht Station.
Local Attractions: Nicholas Everett Park adjoins
the banks of the Broad affording pleasant walks and
a good vantage point to watch the mutlitude of pleasure
boating which goes on at Oulton Broad. Speed Boat racing
takes place each Thursday evening in the summer.
Potter Heigham
Bars & Restaurants: The Broads Tavern is located by the
bridge. The Falgate Inn is a little further away towards the
village. Both have extensive bar menus.
Shops: Lathams Store is a large discount retailer selling all
manor of goods and attracting visitors from all over Norfolk.
There is also a sizeable general store not far from the moorings.
Local Attractions: Potter Heigham bridge is a low arched structure
across the river which requires the use of a pilot to negotiate.
You can spend a pleasant hour or so just watching the skill
of the pilots as they seek to pass under without mishap.
Ranworth:
Public Houses and Restaurants: The
Maltsters and the Granary
Restaurant.
Extensive menus.
Shops: provisions and gifts available from
the Granary Stores.
Reedham:
Bars & Restaurants: The Lord Nelson and the Ship
Inn, both
riverside, serving food. The Ferry Inn is located away from the village at the site
of Norfolks only remaining chain ferry. Food available.
Shops: Small gift shop, grocers and doctor in the
village.~
Local Attractions: Pettitts Adventure Park
is a short walk from the riverside (www.pettittsadventurepark.co.uk)
Rockland:
Bars & Restaurants: The New Inn. Located at the end of
a narrow dyke joined to pretty Rockland Broad, which in turn
is connected to the River Yare. Good sized menu.
Shops: Local provisions store.
Stalham
Bars and Restaurants: The Harnser (www.a2znorfolk.com/harnser)
is located half way between Stalham and Sutton - around a 15
min walk from the free moorings at Richardsons Boatyard at
Stalham. Extensive menu plus occasional live music at weekends. The
Grebe. Located on Stalham high street. Bar food available. The
Kingfisher Hotel at the far end of the high street has
a restaurant.
Shops: Tesco's is close to the free moorings. The village
high street has a wide range of shops including a pharmacy, a
doctor, two banks and various gift shops.
Local attractions: The Museum of the Broads
is short walk from the free moorings.
Stokesby:
Public Houses and Restaurants: The
Ferry Inn is riverside. Extensive
menu available.
Sutton
Bars and Restaurants: The Sutton
Staithe Hotel is located on the riverside with free
moorings close by. The Hotel has a restaurant and offers an
extensive choice of bar meals
Shops: There is a small general store in the village,
around 15 mins walk away.
Thorpe Green
Bars & Restaurants: Three public houses on the riverbank,
all with gardens. The Town House, (www.pub-explorer.com/norfolk/pub/townhousethorpenorwich.htm) The Rivergarden and The
Rushcuttters (www.pub-explorer.com/norfolk/pub/rushcuttersarms.htm) have
extensive menus.
Shops: A few local shops. Major supermarket within a mile,
but a long way to walk back with your shopping.
Local Attractions: The fine city of Norwich is a short distance
away and can be reached by bus if you do not
want to moor at the Yacht Station within the city itself.
Thurne
Bars & Restaurants: The Lion Inn. At the end of Thurne
Dyke off the River Thurne. Bar food menu available.
Local Attractions: Thurne Mill windmill is at the head of the
dyke and no doubt in thousands of photograph collections nationwide.
Upton:
Public Houses and Restaurants: White
Horse Public House. Food available lunchtimes
and evenings.
West Somerton
Bars & Restaurants: The Lion Inn. Bar food menu available.
Wroxham
Public Houses and Restaurants: Kings
Head Hotel and Wroxham Hotel.
Located either side of Wroxham bridge. Both have restaurants and bar
food. Other restaurants available within a few minutes of
the river.
Shops: Roys supermarket, fancy goods, clothing
gardening and hardware. Major banks, a launderette
and assorted takaways.
